Award ceremony for the Start Plus public employment programme

16 December 2024.

Pál Réthy, Deputy Secretary of State for Public Employment at the Ministry of the Interior, presented awards to municipalities and public employment workers who have done outstanding professional work and exemplary work in the implementation of the Start Plus public employment programmes.

Public employment is no longer a transit employment tool, but a comprehensive support system that helps prepare groups in more difficult labour market situations and develop their skills, said the Deputy State Secretary for Public Employment of the Ministry of the Interior on 16 December in Budapest.

Pál Réthy at a ceremony to honour municipalities and exemplary public sector workers for their professional excellence in the implementation of the 2024 Start Plus public employment programmes, recalled that when the government launched the public employment programmes, the primary objective was to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to work, develop and progress. Innovative initiatives also set an example for society as a whole.

A total of HUF 130 billion was made available to fund public employment programmes in 2024, with almost 64,000 people currently participating.
This year, the value-added programmes of the district start-up programmes were implemented in 1110 municipalities across the country and the Ministry of Interior supported the employment of 28 168 people through the launch of the programmes.

He said that this year, among others, the Minister's award will be given to public employers who, taking into account local needs, do an outstanding job, "like a good farmer", continuously develop and improve their programme, taking into account local needs, and implement it in a regular and accurate manner, in constructive cooperation with the sponsor, and coordinate the work of public employees effectively.
He pointed out that this year's winners include four "Catching Up" municipalities from the most disadvantaged regions of the country.
"I am confident that the amount of the award can contribute to the development of public employment programmes, the productive capacities created and the results achieved in the programme," said Pál Réthy.
After the award ceremony, participants were treated to a performance by participants in the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service's Symphony programme, with authentic dance and orchestral accompaniment.
This year's winners of the programme were Tiszakécske, Nagypall, Gádoros, Boldva, Tiszapalkonya, Balástya, Mezőkomárom, Rábacsécsény, Báránd, Átány, Kenderes, Nógrádszakál, Kóka, Szőkedencs, Dombrád, Tiszaeszlár, Nagyszokoly and Berhida, as well as Via-Bona Foglalkoztatási Nonprofit Kft. and Nyírerdő Nyírségi Erdészeti Zrt.

VIA-BONA FOGLALKOZTATÁSI NONPROFIT Kft.

In April 2015, VIA-BONA Employment Nonprofit Ltd. joined the national model public employment programme for disadvantaged social groups. The background for the implementation of the programme was provided by Relabor Occupational Rehabilitation Ltd., building on the decades of cooperation between the two companies.

The aim of the programme is to promote the integration of homeless people through the cultivation of crops. They grow vegetables and fruit trees in greenhouses and in open fields. Thanks to heated greenhouses, vegetable production is also carried out in winter and seedlings are grown from early spring. Some of the harvested produce is distributed to the socially deprived and the homeless, while some is sold.

Participants in the programme live in a homeless shelter, so they can be rehabilitated in a sheltered environment. The right professional team is in place to do this, and the care, support and mentoring of their employees is ongoing. They take care of medical care and help with administrative matters for the programme participants. Thanks to this, in recent years, several people have been able to enter the open labour market as park attendants, cleaners and other unskilled jobs.

Thank you for this honourable recognition!
